So far so good, I am still getting to know this camera. Its real test will come when I go to Rome, lots of photos WILL be taken. I hope this camera performs as it is supposed to.

I checked out a lot of reviews for a lot of "bridge" cameras before deciding to buy the Nikon Coolpix P90. I'm extremely pleased with it. The screen is a good size - 3", it tilts up & down too which can be handy. The zoom controls are easy to use. You can select full auto or for more control various other modes including aperture priority, shutter priority, full manual, sport etc. In sport mode it'll do 15fps - now that's fast. To do this it automatically drops down from 12MP which isn't a problem. It'll focus down to about 1cm in close-up. It'll take good videos & a new feature to me is time-laps video. It's very well built, very easy to use & is a nice compact design. You can do a lot worse than pick this camera - basically it'll just about do anything you could possibly want.

have used Nikon SLRs for years and bought this camera to save weight. The images are viewed on a 20inch computer screen as slideshows, and are excellent. I use fine JPEG images, and the 12 megapixies allow good quality cropping and printing. The lens zoom is outstanding for the size of the camera. The downsides are that battery life is limited: 230 shots rather than the 500+ I got on my SLR. The on/off button has no lock and I found the camera switched itself on in my bag. I don't think this contributed too much to battery usage because the camera automatically switches itself off after 30 seconds of inactivity. There is no filter thread: Cokin apparently makes a holder to allow filters to be used, but I feel uncomfortable not having a UV filter to protect the lens. The zoom is motor driven and is 'stepped'. This means exact framing of shots is a bit hit and miss. The camera does not feel as well built or robust as Nikon SLRs. In all, I am not unhappy with it, but if buying now would try to find another camera that did not have the disadvantages of this one. I shall still take it on trips, but it will supplement rather than replace the SLR.
